Rory Moloney ... the Buccaneers player is included in the Ireland U-20 squad.

Buccaneers duo named in Ireland U20 squad for Six Nations

By Kieran Galvin

Two Buccaneers players have been named in the Ireland squad for the 2014 RBS U-20 Six Nations Championship.

Rory Moloney and Jacob Walshe of the Athlone-based rugby club are included in Mike Ruddock's panel of 28 players.

Moloney was captain of the Ireland U-19 team which played Australia at Ravenhill in December. A hugely promising player, Moloney, although only 18, has been a regular starter for the Buccaneers senior team this season.

Both Moloney and Ballinasloe native Walshe are former pupils of Cistercian College, Roscrea. The duo helped the Roscrea school to reach the Leinster Schools Senior Cup final in 2011, in which they were defeated by Clongowes Wood College.

Peter Dooley from Birr is again included in the squad. Along with Peadar Timmins, Dooley is one of two players retained from last year's squad, with the majority of the players looking forward to making their Six Nations debuts.

UCD flanker Dan Leavy has been installed as squad captain. Harrison Brewer (Terenure College RFC) the son of Mike Brewer, the 32 time capped All Black, is also in the squad.

The Ireland U20 squad will be reduced from 28 to 23 ahead of the Six Nations Championship.

Ireland's home games will be held in Dubarry Park, Athlone, again this year. Ireland begin their campaign in Athlone against Scotland on Friday, January 31.

The other games in Dubarry Park are against Wales on February 7, and versus Italy on Friday, March 7.

Ireland U-20 Head Coach, Mike Ruddock, commented: 'We have a very competitive group this year with a number of players gathering invaluable experience with provincial A sides and in the Ulster Bank League. We have a good record at Dubarry Park and we will be looking to build on strong home form ahead of two difficult away fixtures.”

Damian Byrne, Partner in Ireland team sponsors PwC, said: 'We are committed to supporting the development of Irish Rugby through our sponsorship of the Under-20 team and wish them every success in their upcoming 2014 RBS Six Nations Championship.”
