MAYOR’S BALL
Athlone Community Taskforce is holding a fundraising event, 'The Mayor’s Ball’ for its new enterprise and employment initiative 'Opportunity in a Million’. This event will be held on Friday, June 6, in the Sheraton Hotel. Tickets available from ACT, Ballalley Lane, Parnell Square. Cost €40. Contact 6494555 for more information. 

COLLECTION DAY
Midlands Simon Community will be collecting in Athlone town on Friday, and Saturday, June 6 and 7. All monies raised go towards providing homeless services in Athlone and wider Westmeath area. If you would like to volunteer for an hour or two, call 087 9723480.

MARYLAND WALKING CLUB
Maryland Walking Club continues to meet on Tuesdays and Friday at 8pm in the park, all are welcome. New members are encouraged to join.

BRIDGE IN GLASSON
Bridge has resumed on Fridays in The Fatted Calf, Glasson, at 10.30am.

Castledaly Fit Club continues to meet up on Tuesdays and Fridays at 6.45pm at the walking track. New members always welcome.

SATURDAY, JUNE 7

BIODIVERSITY DAY
Monksland Biodiversity Day takes place on June 7 next, starting from Summerhill roundabout from 10am to 3pm. There will be lots of fun nature activities on the day with Michael Bell from Nature Learn including a bird walk, moth trapping, a nature walk, nature art, mini beast hunts and fun for all the family! The event is organised by Monksland Tidy Towns and all are welcome to attend.

NEWC FEST
Ryan Sheridan, Ham Sandwich, Big September and Keywest are just some of the acts on the bill for NewC Fest, Ballymahon’s hottest new festival, set on the grounds of the 300-year-old Newcastle House this Saturday, June 7. EUROPEAN TITLE KICKBOXING EVENT
Wolfpack Kickboxing will host a fight night on June 7 in the Radisson Hotel, Athlone.
Four-time Irish and Celtic Kickboxing champion Gary McDonnell will fight for a European title on the night, while Eric McCormack will fight for an Irish Kickboxing title. LOUGH REE MONSTER TRIATHLON
Athlone Triathlon club are hosting their Annual Lough Ree Monster Triathlon in Portrunny on Saturday, June 7, next. The sprint distance triathlon  consists of a 750M swim in Lough Ree followed by 20K bike and 5K run. There’s also a Try-a-Tri option of a 200M swim, 20K bike and 5K run, plus a relay option. Rosemarie Langtry, resident artist at The Art and Heritage Artist Studios provides adult art classes on Mondays from 10.30am to 12.30pm and children’s art and craft classes from 4pm to 5.30pm on Mondays.

RNIL OPEN DAY
Lough Ree RNLI Lifeboat station will celebrate its second year in operation with an open day on June 21 at 12 noon. The crew will be on hand for meet and greets as well as putting on a display to show how the lifeboat is launched, some of the exercises they do and how it is then recovered.
The open day takes place at the lifeboat station in Coosan Point on Saturday June 21 from 12 noon to 4pm.

7k Run/Walk
A 7k run/walk in aid of The Friends of St Luke’s Hospital will take place on Sunday, June 22 next at 11am in Glasson. Children’s race at 10.45am. Races starts from the Heritage Centre, Glasson.
