Final call to all westmeath silver surfers

The deadline for nominations to the 2014 Google Silver Surfer Awards with Age Action is almost upon us. The public has until October 6 to nominate a friend, neighbour or relative who is over 50 and who has embraced technology and made it part of their daily life.
Google and Age Action are asking people across Westmeath to put forward those older people who have taken to the digital world with gusto, such as last year’s overall winner David Lowen. David’s love of music gave him his taste of the online world. Regularly streaming music through sites Spotify, David also learned to shop, bank and book holidays online. Since winning the award, David has embarked on a digital photography course to help him build his impressive photography collection.
Stuart McLaughlin, Head of GooglersGive EMEA said: “The awards are about recognising the steps taken by older people in the digital world. Whether it’s connecting with loved ones on the other side of the world, arranging travel plans or using it to pay the bills, more and more of the over 50s in Ireland are taking to the online world and it’s important that this is encouraged. We truly are living in a digital age and it’s important that all ages are involved and that nobody gets left behind because it’s never too late to learn!”
There are five award categories this year. The public can nominate someone for an award by filling in a form online at www.ageaction.ie/silversurfer or by phoning Anne Marie on 01 4756989. Closing date for Nominations is Monday, October 6.
The winners of the Google Silver Surfer Awards with Age Action will be announced at an awards ceremony on October 20 at Google Headquarters in Dublin.
