34000 in national lottery funding approved for local organisations

Six organisations in the region are to benefit from €34,000 in National Lottery funding, it’s been announced.

“I am delighted for the six organisations across Longford and Westmeath that are to receive €34,000 between them in National Lottery Funding administered by the Department of Health,” Longford Westmeath Fine Gael TD, Gabrielle McFadden said this week.

“In Westmeath, the Irish Red Cross in Athlone will receive €15,000 towards the cost of purchasing a new ambulance. Athlone Meals on Wheels is to benefit from €10,000 in funding which will go towards the cost of buying a van.”

She continued: “The 1428 Active Retirement Club in Mullingar is to receive an allocation of €3,000 towards the continued refurbishment of new premises, while the Arthritis Ireland branch in Castletown-Geoghan will benefit from €1,000 to fund tai chi and yoga classes.”

Meanwhile, in Longford, the Arthritis in Ireland branch in Tully has been awarded €2,500 towards the cost of funding 'Living with Arthritis’ courses, while Keeping House in Ballinalee will also receive €2,500 towards the cost of purchasing office, administration and cleaning equipment.

“All of these organisations are very deserving of this tranche of funding approved by the Minister of Health Leo Varadkar under the 2014 National Lottery funding programme.

“The Department will be in touch very shortly with each of the organisations concerning payment of these grants,” Deputy McFadden concluded.
