Snowfall warning in place

A snowfall warning is in place for inland counties tonight and tomorrow, Tuesday, with between 5 and 10cm is forecast for some areas.

A front crossing Ireland will bring winds of 40-70kmh, turning in a northeasterly direction, adding the extra wind chill.

The outlook for the week, according to Met Éireann, is for the weather to remain very cold with widespread frost overnight and values dropping to between -3 and -6 degrees Celsius.

On Wednesday there will be a severe ground frost but good sunny spells should dominate most of the day. Thursday and Friday will bring more of the same.

As always, motorists should take care when travelling, especially on untreated roads in rural areas and allow extra time for journeys.
