Trailer stolen and house ransacked

Gardai in Roscommon are appealing for the public to be on the look-out for a distinctive tipping trailer worth €3,000 which was stolen in Bealnamulla last week.

The eight foot by five foot tipping Ivor Williams trailer with mesh sides was stolen from a shed in the Castlesampson area of Bealnamulla on Tuesday, March 31 last, sometime between 5pm and 7pm. Gardai say the back mesh panel was not in place at the time of the theft.

A distinctive trailer, it has an electric motor for tipping and can fetch around €3,000 second-hand, costing several thousand euro more when bought new.

Gardai are appealing to anyone offered an item like this for sale to be vigilant and be sure of what they are buying. Anyone with any suspicions, or anybody who noticed anything unusual in the Castlesampson area last week is asked to call Roscommon Garda Station 090 6638300 or Clonark Garda Station 090 6437102.

Separately, gardai are investigating a break-in at a rural house in Oldtown on Good Friday.

The home, located in the Cournaveigh townland, was broken into during the hours of 3pm and 5pm, generally the time when Good Friday religious ceremonies are taking place.

Although widely ransacked, it appears that the nothing of value was taken from the house.
