The late Páidí Ó Sé

Bronze statue of pid s to be unveiled in ventry

The late Páidí Ó Sé's pub in Kerry is already a place of pilgrimage for many Westmeath football fans, but from Saturday week, visitors will have something else to behold other than the Ventry pub's legendary atmosphere.

That's because on May 16, a life-size bronze statue of the Kerry legend and former Westmeath senior football manager will be unveiled by family and friends outside the pub.

The statue - the work of Clare sculptor Seamus Connolly - will be located next to a plaque outlining Páidí's achievements as a player and manager with Kerry, and of course, as manager of Westmeath, whom he led to a maiden Leinster SFC title in 2004.

GAA personalities and friends of the late Páidí - who died suddenly in December 2012, aged 57 - will be in attendance for the unveiling, a number of them from Westmeath.
