Athlone musical society up for two awards

Athlone Musical Society has been nominated for two awards in the upcoming Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) Awards.
Both nominations are in the Gilbert Section, with Lucia Evans, who played Motormouth in Hairspray, up for Best Female Singer and the society is also up for Best Visual (Costumes, Props, Make-Up & Hair) for Hairspray.
Lucia will be up against Bronwyn Andrews of Coolmine Musical Society, who played Svetlana in Chess, and Dearbhail Downey from Clane Musical Society, who played Gilmer in Godspell.
The society will be up against Birr Stage Guild, which staged Fiddler on the Roof and Trim Musical Society, which staged The Addams Family, for the Best Visual award.
Ballinasloe Musical Society is up for three awards in the Sullivan Section and its director Paul Norton has been nominated for Best Director for its production of The Addams Family. It is also up for the award of Best Ensemble for The Entrance of the Beinekes and Best Chorus, also for The Addams Family.
Lea Carroll of Clara Musical Society has been nominated for Best Choreography in the Gilbert Section for the society’s production of Evita.
Tullamore Musical Society is also in the running for an award, with Chris Corroon as Chad in All Shook Up, nominated for the Best Comedian award.
