Jaded roscommon paid the price for approach to league curran

Former Roscommon GAA star Shane Curran said the 'chickens came home to roost' for his county's 'jaded' side in their disappointing defeat to Sligo in last weekend’s Connacht semi-final.

In his column for this week's Westmeath Independent, Curran said he believed Roscommon 'paid the price for the manager’s approach to the League.'

'You might recall that in March I predicted that Roscommon would suffer, both physically and mentally, in the Championship because they continually played their strongest team in the League, while other counties took a more sensible approach with their major players,' he said.

'Last weekend, the majority of the Roscommon players looked like a tired team, who just didn’t have the physical capacity to match Sligo after a successful but costly League campaign.'

He described the performance against Sligo as 'very poor'.

'It lacked energy and organisation, while the players looked confused by the tactics.'
