The HSE Community Games Finals run for two weekends in August in (AIT) Athlone Institute of Technology. The first weekend runs from Friday, August 14 to 16, and the second weekend runs from Friday, August 21 to 23.

Delicate Matter, an exhibition showcasing the talents of Karen Donnellan, Jennifer Hickey and Liz Nilsson has opened in the Luan Gallery and will be showing right up to August 30. Admission is free.

HARVEST FAIR
Horseleap Tidy Village will be hosting the annual Harvest Fair in Horseleap on Sunday, August 16, from 2pm to 6pm. Wooly Wards pet farm, bouncing castles, vegetable competition, and lots more.

CEMETERY SUNDAY
Cemetery in Coosan Cemetery takes place at 4pm.  

SOUTH ROSCOMMON CYCLING CLUB
This is a leisure cycling club open to all regardless of your cycling capabilities. The club would love to see current members and new members coming along to take part. Cycle takes place every Sunday from Clann na nGael clubhouse at 9am.

Children’s Summer Sports Camp will be held from August 17 to 21 next at Monksland Football Pitches from 10am to 1pm. The camp will include a wide variety of fun games, races, sports and activities for all children to enjoy. Prices begin at €15 for one child to €25 for two, and €35 for three children. WORLD RECORD BID
Padraig Pearses GAA Club will strive to gain entry to the Guinness Book of Records by attempting to break the world record for holding the biggest Gaelic football training session.
The attempt will take place on Saturday, August 22, in the club grounds in Woodmount (5pm). RTE personality Marty Morrissey has been confirmed as MC for the club’s fundraising world record attempt.

MOATE SHOW
Moate Agricultural Show Society will hold their 174th show in Moate Showgrounds (beside Anthony Browne’s filling station) on Sunday, August 23. The launch of the show took place in the Grand Hotel on Friday night last and many thanks to all who supported it. A great night was had by all. Heartfelt thanks for the continued support given to Moate Show down through the years. CAMP LUGH
Camp Lugh is a five day fun filled camp for primary school children in Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park, Moate, from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28, from 9.30am to 2pm daily.

ACTIVE AGE
St Kieran’s Active Age Group will recommence on Wednesday, September 2, from 10am -12pm, with loads of activities as well as old favorites - cookery, art, beauty, hairdressing,  keep-fit. Horticulture on Monday mornings.

ATHLONE RIVER FESTIVAL
Athlone River Festival and Food Village is due to take place on September 12 and 13 next. Over 30 events are planned for the two-day event including dragon boat racing, raft racing, children’s angling, food village around Athlone Castle, soap box racing and a family fun run.

FAR SIDE FESTIVAL
The Far Side Festival is a new arts festival that will take place on September 18, 19 and 20 in Athlone. A wide variety of events are planned such as art exhibitions with award winning artists Doug Ross and Lesley Wingfield, a poetry writing workshop with well known midlands
writer Noel Monahan and a reading with poet and physicist Iggy McGovern.
The festival also features music such as the Driftwood Manor and Rivers and Crows, both amazing and talented groups of musicians. Best selling psychotherapist Terry Lynch will be in conversation about his new book 'The Depression Delusion’.
