Local students receive Leaving Cert results

Almost 2,000 local students are receiving their Leaving Cert results today (Wednesday).
Some 1,382 Westmeath students will receive their results, while 554 students in Roscommon will find out how they did in their exams. A further 20 Westmeath students and 14 Roscommon students will receive results for the Leaving Cert Applied.
In Westmeath 702 male students and 680 female students sat the exams, while in Roscommon the 554 students were made up of 260 male and 294 female students.
The results will be available in schools locally this morning or online from midday.
The overall number sitting the examinations has increased by 0.9 % from 57,931 candidates in 2015 to 58,466 in 2016. Of the 58,466 candidates who sat Leaving Certificate examinations this year, 55,708 candidates followed the Leaving Certificate (Established) programme, including 14,637 (26%) who followed the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. A further 2,758 students nationwide (4.7%) followed the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme this year, according to the department.
