Syrian refugees due to arrive in December

Athlone will welcome some 50 refugees from war-torn Syria who are due to be resettled in the town this December, the Westmeath Independent can reveal.

The refugees will travel from the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) camps in Lebanon.
Some 72 people are expected to arrive in Mullingar in May.
It's unclear as of yet where either group will be housed in the two towns.
The refugees are part of approximately 4,000 people which the government has committed to receiving through the Irish Refugee Protection Programme.
