Athlone's Custume Barracks to host Open Day

As part of its latest recruitment drive, the Defence Forces will host a General Services Open Day at Custume Barracks in Athlone this Thursday, March 30 from 2pm to 5pm.

The Open Day is aimed at giving prospective recruits an overview of life in the Irish Defence Forces.

The event will feature a number of 15-minute presentations on various aspects of life in the Irish Army, including a presentation by Captain Danielle Murphy which is specifically aimed at female recruits and will focus on fitness and taking away “the fear factor.”

There will also be presentations on life as an Army recruit; overseas opportunities, and fitness.

Among the demonstrations will be non-armed combat; the use of weapons and the fitness levels required for service with the Defence Forces.

The Defence Forces have contacted all secondary schools, Colleges and Universities about their General Services Open Day so a large crowd is expected to attend at Custume Barracks on Thursday afternoon.

The closing date for the Defence Forces latest recruitment drive is Wednesday of next week, April 5.
