Westmeath Creative Ireland Arts Grants launched

Westmeath County Council have launched a grants scheme to provide support to all those involved in creative activities and projects around the county as part of the Creative Ireland Programme 2017-2022.

The nominal amount availabe to any one project will be between €500 and €2,500, and all applications received will be assessed based on an agreed selection criteria. The closing date for applications is 28th April next.

Speaking at the launch of the grants scheme, Miriam Mulrennan, Westmeath's Creative Ireland Coordinator, and Arts Officer, said the legacy from the 1916 celebrations created “a deepened understanding of our capacity as citizens to respond to a call for meaningful creative expression” and the aim of the Creative Ireland project is to “build on that legacy.” She added that Year One of Creative Ireland will begin with “a modest programme of events and activities that place participation in the arts at the centre” and aim is to create a “more robust and sustainable programme over the next five years.”

The grant scheme launched by Westmeath County Council will provide support to local and community groups, artistic and creative practitioners, event organisers and those involved in creative activities and projects- that will encourage cultural participation throughout Westmeath. This fund is open to not-for-profit organizations, local community groups, arts, heritage and cultural groups, venues and societies.

An initial workshop took place earlier this month in Moate, where members of the public got the opportunity to hear from the national Creative Ireland Team, and feedback from the public was positive and lively.
