Westmeath's Tommy McDaniel - Westmeath have been drawn against Armagh in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

Westmeath footballers and hurlers learn their qualifier fate

Westmeath's footballers have been drawn against Armagh in the All-Ireland qualifiers - while the Westmeath hurlers have been paired with All-Ireland champions Tipperary.

The Westmeath footballers will have home advantage while the hurlers are set to travel to Thurles. However, pressure may be exerted on Tipperary to travel to Mullingar given the current status of the two counties.

The Westmeath hurlers will be in action this weekend (July 1/2), while the footballers will be out the following weekend (July 8/9).

Confirmation of venues, times and dates for all fixtures will be confirmed following a meeting of the GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) this afternoon (Tuesday).

Following the 31-point trouncing at the hands of All-Ireland champions Dublin at Croke Park yesterday, the Westmeath footballers obviously face a very difficult task in trying to bounce back.

Kieran McGeeney's Armagh charges defeated Fermanagh last weekend, having lost a local derby against Down in the Ulster championship.

Westmeath defeated Offaly in the quarter-finals of the Leinster SFC in a replay (3-17 to 0-15), having been quite fortunate to draw the original fixture.

The football draw also set up a clash between Wexford and Monaghan which will see Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney in opposition to his native Monaghan.

By finishing second in their round robin group, the Westmeath hurlers qualified for the Leinster quarter-finals where they were edged out by Offaly in an exciting game. For their part, Tipperary were defeated by Cork in a thrilling Munster quarter-final clash in Thurles.

The stand-out fixture in the hurling draw is the meeting of 2015 All-Ireland champions Kilkenny and Limerick. Offaly have been drawn at home to Waterford.
