More problems with local drinking water supply.

More disruptions to local water supplies

Householders and businesses in large parts of Athlone will continue to suffer intermittent dispruptions to water supply for the next two days.

Irish Water had previously announced water restrictions in the town in the last few days to allow the reservoirs refill.

Now, in a new statement, Irish Water said that refilling the reservoir will require an extended disruption of supply, which is not feasible in the current weather conditions. It is expected that this work will now be carried out on Wednesday, March 7.

Customers are currently being served directly from the Water Treatment Plant and will continue to experience intermittent disruptions until the reservoir is back on line.

The disruptions will apply to Coosan, Montree, Beechpark, Assumption Road, Abbey Road, Coosan Point Road, Hillquarter, Meehanquarter, Coosan Point, The Two Mile, The Glen, Coolevin, Coosan Heath, Bloomfield Drive, Church Hills, Churchfields and surrounding areas of Athlone.

Meanwhile, Irish Water said works in other areas concluded shortly before noon today (Monday) and supply should begin to return to the following areas: Athlone Town, Annagh, Baylin, Mount Temple, Ories, Killion Hill, Ballymahon Road, Dublin Road, Ard Na Gluf, Cornamaddy, Moydrum, Garrycastly, Mount Temple, Blyry and surrounding areas in Co. Westmeath.
