Alison Spittle

Popular Ballymore comedian to appear at Electric Picnic

KAYLEY HARDIMAN

Ballymore's Alison Spittle will be performing at Ireland’s biggest music festival, Electric Picnic this Saturday. Her RTÉ Two series ‘Nowhere Fast’ which she co-wrote and stars in was praised for its originality in portraying the life of a young woman starting out in the workforce in the midlands. Alison’s entertaining stories about rural life and small town norms will relate to a lot of people who grew up in smaller, more rural areas.

The up and coming comedian also hosts her own live podcast called 'The Alison Spittle Show' which she describes as a "punk version of the most unpunk thing in the world." Alison has spoken to many of Ireland's best-known starlets and emerging young talents including comedians Neil Delamere, Tommy Tiernan, Kevin McGahern, Gearoid Farrelly and Eleanor Tiernan. She has also interviewed 'Can't Cope Won't Cope' actress Seána Kerslake, novelist Louise O'Neill, broadcaster Louise McSharry, Snapchat and social media sensation James Kavanagh and fashion blogger and disability rights advocate Sinéad Burke.

If you're heading to Electric Picnic Alison will be chatting to actress, writer and producer Sharon Horgan on the Ah Hear! stage in the MindField area at 6:15pm tomorrow as part of her podcast. The Westmeath comedian has also performed at the 'Vodafone Comedy Festival' in the Iveagh Gardens and staged her show 'Alison Spittle Needs an Agent' to the 'Edinburgh Festival Fringe' and the 'Dublin Fringe.' She was a team captain on a panel show for RTE 2 called 'Choose or Lose.'

If you didn't manage to nab a ticket for the sold out Electric Picnic you have a chance to catch Alison discuss the complexities of 21st century feminism on 'The Guilty Feminist Podcast 'with Deborah Francis-White. The podcast is in conjunction with the 'Dublin Podcast Festival' and will take place on Monday, October 1 at Vicar Street. Tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster for €28.
