Phones worth €40,000 stolen in Athlone

Over €40,000 of phones were stolen in an audacious early morning burglary in the centre of Athlone.

Gardai have issued an appeal for information in relation to the movements of a silver Peugeot 407 after four masked men broke down the door of the 3 phone shop at the entrance to Athlone Towncentre at 4.05am this morning before departing with variety of phones from the premises.

The car was later seen going out the old Dublin Road.

Sgt Andrew Haran from Athlone Garda Station estimated that the value of phones taken in the early morning raid at over €40,000. He appealed to taxi drivers or anyone with dashcam footage - who noticed a silver Peugeot 407 in the Athlone area before or after 4am with four men and a driver inside to come forward.
CCTV footage is currently being examined by officers in a bid to find the gang behind the early morning break-in.

It's suspected that the gang are not from the Athlone area.
