Water to be shut off yet again in parts of Athlone

For the fourth time in two weeks, some 8,000 people in parts of Athlone will tonight have no water supply.

Irish Water said that following a mechanical fault at the Athlone Water Treatment Plant, a water outage will be required in Athlone and surrounding areas from 10pm tonight, Wednesday October 17 until 6am tomorrow Thursday October 18.

The body said the outage would affect approximately 8,000 customers on the east side of Athlone Town, Baylin, Mount Temple, Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley and surrounds in Co. Westmeath.

A crew is currently onsite fixing the fault. The water restriction is necessary to ensure that there is an adequate quantity of treated water to supply industries, schools, residences and commercial activities during business hours.
Last Wednesday, water supply was cut off to the same areas of Athlone due to essential maintenance.

Two nights previously, Monday, October 8, water was shut off due to a mechanical failure at the treatment plant and on Thursday, October 4, an overnight restriction was put down to a mechanical failure.
