Rosemount half marathon countdown continues - early bird offer almost gone

Rosemount is preparing to stage its second half marathon and 10k event which will take place on Saturday, October 12.

The early bird entry price for both races closes tomorrow (Saturday), August 31 - so anybody thinking of taking part is encouraged to register as soon as possible.

The event is organised by Rosemount GAA club, with the assistance of the local community. Rosemount Community Centre, located at the GAA grounds, will again host the event.

Last year's inaugural event proved a major success and attracted a large entry, with organisers also praised for involving asylum seekers living in the nearby Temple Accommodation Centre in Horseleap. A number of asylum seekers ran in the event while others helped out as volunteers.

With this year's event again taking place just over two weeks before the Dublin City Marathon, it should suit athletes who will be tapering down in distance after long training runs in preparation for Dublin.

Peter Mooney from Meath was the winner of the men's half marathon race in Rosemount last year, while Adrianna Mulligan of Longford AC was the first woman home. In last year's 10k, Andrew Nevin of Mullingar Harriers was the first male finisher, with Julie Kirwan of Slaney Olympic emerging as winner of the women's race.

To register for the Rosemount half marathon or 10k run, go to https://register.primoevents.com/ps/event/RosemountHalfMarathon10k2019  - and anyone with any queries is asked to email Claire at rosemounthalfmarathon@gmail.com

Rosemount are also preparing for their first game in the knockout stages of the Westmeath senior football championship in over 20 years - they face The Downs at TEG Cusack Park in the quarter-finals on Saturday, September 7.

And last Saturday night, the launch of the Rosemount History and Heritage DVD with Fr Jimmy Murray took place, so it's busy times around Rosemount way at the moment.
