Local architect's art exhibition underway in Sheraton

An exhibition of artwork by Athlone-based architect Brendan McGettigan opened in the town's Sheraton Hotel last week.

The paintings will remain on display at the hotel on Gleeson Street until this Sunday, December 22.

Mr McGettigan, who founded his architectural firm Brendan McGettigan & Associates Ltd in 1994, has held a number of exhibitions in previous years, including exhibiting at the Patrick MacGill Summer School in Donegal and at the All Ireland Drama Festival in Athlone.

Promotional material for the current exhibition in the Sheraton said his recent work is interested in "the the mood, feelings and emotions" that painting can evoke.

"Furthermore, the more recent work is endeavoring to probe the more mysterious, almost mystical aspects of painting," it stated.

"The effort now is to create work that expresses this search, to view events, people and phenomena through a somewhat mysterious lens, and to hopefully capture a sense of the wildness and freedom of the West of Ireland and its rich mythology."
