Sinn Féin leader in Athlone to view flooding situation 

Sinn Féin president Mary Lou McDonald is coming to Athlone today (Tuesday) to view the current flooding situation in the area. 

Ms McDonald, along with her party's Longford / Westmeath TD Sorca Clarke and Roscommon / Galway TD Claire Kerrane, is coming to the Shamrock Lodge Hotel where she will be meeting with residents of The Park estate on Deerpark Road. 

She is also expected to visit the Canal Walk and Wolfe Tone Terrace areas during her time in the town.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was in Athlone yesterday, as certain areas of the town grapple with the impact of rising levels on the River Shannon following recent heavy rainfall.
