Bishop of Meath Tom Deenihan and Fr Joe Campbell.

RTÉ to broadcast key Easter Week services from Westmeath

RTÉ will broadcast Mass live from the Cathedral of Christ the King in Mullingar on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Saturday.

The broadcasts are part of an extended RTÉ coverage due to the effect of restrictions from the COVID-19 emergency on public attendance at masses.

The masses will be celebrated by Bishop of Meath Tom Deenihan, Rosemount native Father Joe Campbell, and Father Derek Darby.

On Holy Saturday, April 11, RTÉ2 will broadcast Easter Vigil Mass from The Cathedral in Mullingar from 10pm to 11pm.

Bishop of Meath Tom Deenihan celebrates the resurrection of Christ, with a vigil Mass in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar. Beginning with the lighting of the Paschal candle, the liturgy, which signifies the triumph of light over darkness and of life over death, may have particular poignancy in the current COVID-19 pandemic.

This will also be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 Extra/LW252.

On Good Friday, from 3-4pm on RTÉ One TV, the Solemn Liturgy for Good Friday will be broadcast live from the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar where Father Derek Darby will commemorate the Passion and death of Christ. (RTÉ One TV & RTÉ Radio 1 Extra/LW252.)

Details of Thursday’s broadcast have yet to be announced.
