VIDEO: Athlone Army band performs at National Day of Commemoration ceremony

The Band of 2 Brigade, based in Custume Barracks, Athlone, played a key role at a high-profile ceremony in Dublin yesterday (Sunday).

The President and the Taoiseach were among those in attendance at the annual National Day of Commemoration Ceremony to honour all those Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations.

The event, which was broadcast live on RTE One, was held at The National Museum of Ireland in Collins Barracks and the local Army band provided the musical accompaniment to the proceedings.

The band posted this video of one of its rehearsals ahead of the ceremony in Collins Barracks:

Attendance at yesterday's event was limited, but invitations were extended to representatives of the next-of-kin of those who died in past wars or on UN service, ex-servicemen's organisations, as well as relatives of the 1916 Leaders.
