Councillors clap contribution of frontline workers

Councillors in Athlone took to their feet to clap the ongoing contribution of all frontline workers to the Covid-19 crisis at Monday's meeting of Athlone-Moate Municipal District.

It came at the suggestion of the Athlone Mayor, Cllr Aengus O'Rourke, who took the opportunity at the start of the monthly meeting to pay tribute to and thank all essential workers from those in retail to healthcare and other sectors for all of their hard work in such challenging times.

“Without their sacrifice and commitment we'd be in a much darker place,” the Fianna Fáil public representative observed.

He also had huge praise for management in all local schools and teachers for all of their work to get schools back open safely.

“It's fantastic to have our children back to school. I propose a standing ovation,” he suggested. Each member agreed and was upstanding to clap all mentioned for their efforts.

Elsewhere, congratulations were offered at the meeting by Cllr Tom Farrell to Moate's Teresa Greally, who celebrated her 100th birthday recently.
