Positive Covid-19 case confirmed in Moate school

It was confirmed today that there has been a case of Covid-19 at a primary school in Moate.

Local reports of a case at St Brigid's Primary School on Station Road were confirmed by principal Cathy Gillivan this afternoon (Monday).

In a statement issued to the Westmeath Independent, Ms Gillivan said: "I confirm that there was a positive case in St Brigid's Primary School.

"All procedures recommended by the public health service have been followed, and will continue to be followed, and the school remains open."

The school has over 200 pupils. It's a co-educational school from junior infants to first class, and caters for girls only from second class to sixth class.

According to national media reports, cases of Covid-19 have been detected in more than 50 schools across the country since the new term began.
