Tilly wows judges on Glór Tíre country music talent show

22-year old Glasson singer, Tilly Dawson-Stanley, has been wowing the judges on the popular TG4 county music reality show, Glór Tíre, since it began its latest series on January 5 last.

With two performances under her belt so far, a soulful rendition of a Leanne Rimes song “Blue” and a more upbeat number “Drinking with Dolly” which was recorded by Claudia Buckley last year, the talented Glasson singer gave very polished and accomplished performances of both songs in The Quays in Galway city where the show is recorded.

Tilly, who is daughter of Arlene and Jeremy Dawson-Stanley from Portlick, told the Westmeath Independent this week that she has been “really loving the whole experience so far” and is “so, so grateful” to have been given the opportunity to participate in Glór Tíre.

“It is just an amazing opportunity for me, and my mentor, Cliona Hagan, couldn’t be more encouraging or supportive, she is at the end of the phone all the time, and she has helped me so much with advice on every aspect of my performances.”

Describing the comments of the judges. John Creedon, Caitríona Ní Shúilleabháin, and Jó Ní Chéide as being “honest and straightforward”

Tilly Dawson-Stanley says she has taken the comments from the judges on board and has been endeavouring to improve every aspect of her live performances as the Show progresses.

The HSE employee, who has also done some part-time modelling, says she would like to see herself producing music and singing on a full-time basis in the future, and is hoping to win the support of the public vote each week in order to remain in the competition.

The former Our Lady’s Bower student loves American country music, and lists Shania Twain and Dolly Parton among her favourite artists.

Progression in the Glór Tire talent show depends on members of the public voting to keep their favourite act in the competition.

So Tilly Dawson-Stanley is urging everyone to download the Glor Tire app from the App Store or from Google Plays Store and get voting for her right away!

Tilly is one of two local hopefuls taking part in this year's series, with 22-year old Ballinasloe native, Emma Donohue also among the six contestants.

Emma is well-known in Athlone where she is currently embarking on her general nursing studies in the local Institute of Technology.

She is being mentored in the series by fellow Galway native, Mike Denver, and as well as her nursing studies, she divides her time between working on the family farm in Killoran, just outside Ballinasloe, and her country music career.

The four other contestants who are battling it out along with Glasson's Tilly Dawson-Stanley and Ballinasloe's Emma Donohue are Stephen Stokes from Tipperary town, who is mentored by Louise Morrissey; Kealan Browne from Ballybofey, mentored by Robert Mizell; Mary Hoey from Cullyhanna, county Armagh, mentored by the Sheerin Family and David Connor from Claremorris, county Mayo, mentored by Michael English.

To follow the exciting country music journey of Tilly Dawson-Stanley and Emma Donohue, make sure to tune into TG4 every Tuesday night at 9.30pm, and get voting as well!
