Emma Donohue and Tilly Dawson-Stanley

TG4's Glór Tíre semi-finals take place tonight

Local country music singing sensations, Tilly Dawson-Stanley from Glasson and Emma Donohue from Killoran, outside Ballinasloe, will take part in the semi-finals of TG4’s Glór Tíre talent competition when it resumes tonight (Tuesday) at 9.30pm.

The local duo will join four other singers on stage in the Quays Bar in Galway for the semi-finals which were postponed due to a Covid-19 incident on set last month.

22-year old Tilly Dawson-Stanley, who is a former student of Our Lady’s Bower in Athlone and is daughter of Arlene and Jeremy Dawson-Stanley from Portlick, is being mentored by Cliona Hagan for the latest series of the country music talent competition, while student nurse in AIT, 22-year old Emma Donohue, from Killoran is being mentored by fellow Galwegian, Mike Denver.

There was deep disappointment for both local singers when a Covid-19 incident forced the temporary postponement of the Glor Tire semi-finals last month, but both girls are delighted to be just one step away from appearing in the finals of the prestigious competition.

A total of four contestants will take part in in tonight’s semi-finals where Emma Donohue and Tilly Dawson-Stanley will battle it out with David Connor from Claremorris, whose mentor is Michael English and Mary Hoey from Armagh, mentored by The Sheerin Family.

The current series of Glor Tire, which is now in its seventeenth season, began in January, with the finals due to take place at the end of last month.

.Voting was suspended during the postponement but all votes that have been cast to date will be valid once the competition recommences.

Chantelle Padden, a former contestant of Glór Tíre who recently took part in the tenth series of The Voice UK will be performing live on the semi-final show tonight.
