Robbie Powell will compete in the 200-metre freestyle final of Swim Ireland’s National Team Trials this evening (Wednesday).

The Athlone man was the fifth fastest qualifier in the event and will compete in the final alongside seven other leading swimmers.

The 200m freestyle final will be the first of the finals to take place today at 5.30pm.

Robbie will find myself up against the likes of Jack McMillan, Finn McGeever, Jordan Sloan and Gerry Quinn in the 200m final (see line-up below).

The 21-year-old Athlone native recorded a time of 1:50.63 in his semi-final, an improvement on his time in the preliminaries.
