Joint funeral to take place for Athlone mother and daughter

Funeral details have been announced for an Athlone woman and her daughter after their deaths earlier this week prompted a massive outpouring of sympathy for the family in the town and beyond.

Mary Barr of Sarsfield Square died peacefully on Monday, and sadly her daughter Jaki also passed away peacefully the following day.

Hundreds of tributes to the two women have been posted online this week, with friends, neighbours and relatives expressing shock and heartbreak at their deaths in such quick succession.

Mary Barr (née Corr) was predeceased by her beloved son David and grandchildren.

She is sadly missed by her loving husband Paddy, sons Christopher, Michael, Declan, Trevor and Padraig, daughters Madeline, Linda and Denise, brother Teddy, sisters Gretta and Olive, in-laws, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Her daughter Jaki was predeceased by her beloved son Mark and brother David. Her passing is mourned by her loving daughter Nicole, sons Stephen and Patrick, father Paddy, brothers Christopher, Michael, Declan, Trevor and Padraig, sisters Madeline, Linda and Denise, grandchildren Savannah, David and Patrick, in-laws, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

A joint funeral Mass will be celebrated, for family members only, this Saturday, at 10.30am and will be streamed online at: https://www.churchservices.tv/athlonestmarys
