Hundreds avail of walk-in Covid jabs at centres in Athlone and across region

The HSE said 375 people received a Covid-19 vaccination without an appointment during a one-day walk-in clinic in Athlone IT on Sunday.

Vaccination centres across the country operated walk-in clinics on a temporary basis at various stages over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The Athlone vaccination centre, in AIT's International Arena, was open on a walk-in basis from 9am to 7pm on Sunday.

Across the centres in Athlone, Tullamore, Longford, Mullingar and Portlaoise, a total of 2,359 first jabs were administered to people who availed of the opportunity to receive one without an appointment.

The HSE's figures for walk-in vaccinations administered at each centre in the Midlands was a follows:

Tullamore Court Hotel: 442 (285 on Sunday, 157 on Monday)

AIT International Arena: 375 (Sunday)

Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar: 676 (430 on Saturday, 246 on Sunday)

Clonguish, Longford: 411 (Friday)

Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise: 455 (150 on Friday, 305 on Monday).

The HSE said it would consider re-opening walk-in vaccination clinics at some point as a result of the high level of take-up over the weekend.
