Athlone Town appoint Doolin as new manager

Paul Doolin has been appointed as the new manager of the Athlone Town senior men's team.

Doolin has a huge level of League of Ireland experience as a player and manager, and the Dubliner also managed Republic of Ireland U-19 and U-23 teams.

It's a high profile appointment which is likely to be welcomed by Athlone Town fans, despite some dissatisfaction over the departure of Adrian Carberry which was announced yesterday (Tuesday) - see article HERE.

Doolin's appointment as Athlone Town's manager was confirmed following a meeting between the parties late last night.

In a statement, the Athlone Town AFC board of management said it was "delighted" to announce the appointment of Doolin.

"Paul needs little or no introduction to the vast majority of Irish football fans. He has a proven track record in management in the League of Ireland and with Irish underage teams," said the club statement.

"He has managed UCD, Cork City and Drogheda United whom he guided to Premier Division success in 2007 and an FAI Cup win in 2005.

"Before his move to the dugout Paul was a highly decorated and respected player having played for clubs including Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians, Shelbourne, Derry City, and Dundalk in the League of Ireland and Portadown in the Irish League."

"Everyone associated with the club wishes him the best of luck," the statement added.
