Covid testing for people without symptoms to open in Ballinasloe

A pop-up Covid-19 testing centre for people not displaying symptoms of the virus is to open at Ballinasloe Town soccer club this Friday.

The HSE announced this afternoon that the "symptom free" testing centre would open at the club's grounds in Dunlo, Ballinasloe, on Friday from 10am to 4pm.

"These test centres are an important part of the HSE's efforts to facilitate enhanced Covid-19 testing for local communities and means that those without symptoms of Covid-19 have convenient access to Covid-19 testing," said the HSE's statement.

It added that the test centres "also allow further identification and understanding of any variants of concern within communities."

Dr Breda Smyth, Director of Public Health West, commented: "With increased Covid activity levels in East Galway, getting tested is another action people can take to reduce the spread of this disease.

"We would urge people living near this pop-up test centre and who are concerned about Covid-19 to book a free test."

The testing will take place by appointment only, via the HSE's self-referral online portal, as well as GP referrals and appointments for close contacts (including schools).

People attending for a test must bring a photo ID and provide a mobile phone number so that they can be contacted with their test results.
