Delegates at the 2017 Westmeath GAA county convention in Tyrrellspass.

Online format for next Tuesday’s GAA convention

Westmeath GAA’s 2021 county convention is to take place online next Tuesday night, December 14 at 7.30pm.

Delegates and officials were informed last week that the annual meeting – which marks the end of Frank Mescall’s first year as county board chairman – will take place on the Microsoft Teams platform again this year.

Westmeath GAA officials had originally planned to hold an in-person convention in the Mullingar Park Hotel this Sunday. But with a new Covid-19 variant emerging and case numbers/hospitalisations continuing to cause concern, the online option was decided on.

The sitting county committee will be returned to office for another year, with the exception of Michael McHugh (St Loman’s, Mullingar), whose five-year term as Westmeath’s Leinster Council delegate has been served.

Mr McHugh is expected to be succeeded in the role by Tyrrellspass clubman Joe Daly.

Motions tabled by clubs will be discussed in depth, as well as the county’s fortunes on and off the field in 2021.
