St Brigid's set to appoint new manager

St Brigid's GAA club are set to appoint Jerome Stack as their new senior football manager.

A native of Listowel, Co. Kerry, Stack has previously led Dromcollogher-Broadford to Limerick senior championship success. More recently, Stack was manager of Na Gaeil in Kerry.

Stack has worked as a coach alongside former Limerick manager John Brudair. He operated in a similar capacity with Laois under Tomás Ó Flatharta, who is also a former Westmeath manager. Stack also worked with Laois under another Kerryman, John Sugrue.

Interestingly, both St Brigid's and old rivals Clann na nGael will be managed by Kerry men in 2022, with Liam Kearns having been reappointed as Clann boss before Christmas.

Ironically, Stack was briefly part of Kearns' management team when the latter was Tipperary manager.

St Brigid's won the 2020 Roscommon senior football title with a largely youthful side, defeating Pádraig Pearses in the county final. But Pearses dethroned the Kiltoom club at the semi-final stage in 2021 en route to lifting the Fahey Cup.

Benny O'Brien was Brigid's manager in 2020 but stepped down after the 2021 campaign. Brideswell native O'Brien guided Brigid's to three senior titles during two spells as manager.

Pádraig Pearses will be attempting to emulate their illustrious neighbours Brigid's and Clann by winning the Connacht club title when they face Knockmore of Mayo in next Sunday's provincial final (Ballina, 1.30pm).

St Brigid's are the only Roscommon club to win an All-Ireland senior club title, having captured the Andy Merrigan Cup in 2013.
