34 Roscommon clubs share sports capital grants

Roscommon sporting organisations have received sports capital grant allocations of some €2.34m.

The largest single allocation, of €155,305, went to the Roscommon & District Football League Ltd for RDFL Facility Development.

Other big beneficiaries under the latest allocations in Roscommon were St Faithleach's GAA club which was granted €147,207 to erect LED pitch lighting and Western Gaels GAA which received €144,000 for a project, Phase 2 training pitch and upgrade of existing pitch.

In the South Roscommon area, the largest allocation, of €129,738 went to Rahara Rovers FC for clubhouse refurbishment, storage shed, and equipment while Padraig Pearses GAA Club was granted €115,723,to re-roof a clubhouse community facility

Welcoming the funding news, Deputy Denis Naughten said: “This is a historic allocation of funding under the Sports Capital Programme to Roscommon and East Galway and comes on top of an earlier allocation of €600,000 for sports equipment to 24 local sporting organisations across our area.

“With sports clubs making a massive commitment from their own resources, this investment by Government will assist the clubs in completing projects as well as having a direct and indirect employment spin-off within the communities which these clubs serve.

Having worked closely with many of the successful applicants I do not doubt that these projects will have a huge benefit in their local communities.
