Popular Chef Donal Skehan tours midlands in latest episode of new cookery show

Celebrity Chef Donal Skehan visits parts of the midlands in his series 'Donal's Road Trip' which airs tonight on RTÉ One at 8.30pm.

The new series sees him tour various parts of the country cooking dishes inspired by each destination.

Donal and his sheepdog companion Max will set off for the midlands taking in sights along the River Shannon and visiting familiar hotspots such as monastic site Clonmacnoise and the Wineport Lodge in Glasson.

He also met local skipper man Declan and travelled on the Emerald Star to fish with fisher man Mick.

The episode will see the young chef make a delicious smoked trout and potato salad along with Irish boxty potato pancakes.

Donal also attempted some clay pipe making at Ogham Wish in Knockcroghery, visited Leap Castle in Coolderry and Luker's Bar, Shannonbridge and enjoyed a stay in a tranquil hot tub at Wineport Lodge in Glasson.

Speaking about the new show Donal said: "I absolutely loved making this series at a time when the country is getting back on its feet. It was the perfect opportunity to visit businesses that were opening up again after two years of near-dormancy."

"Ireland is truly magical place and my journey exploring it was made all the more fun with my dog Max in tow. It's really encouraging to see such a thriving food scene and I got to visits lots of great producers up and down the country."
