Tributes paid after 'untimely passing' of popular local woman

Warm tributes have been paid in recent days to Claire Curley, an accountant and mother of three from Culliaghmore, Ballinasloe, who sadly passed away on Monday.

Ms Curley (née Guinan) has been described as "a wonderful lady" who will be a great loss to the local community and to everyone who knew her.

She died peacefully at home on Monday, surrounded by her family and friends, and her funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Clonfad, tomorrow (Thursday) at 11am.

In posts on social media, Ballinasloe Town Hall Theatre, Ballinasloe Musical Society and Ballinasloe Town AFC are among those who have been paying tribute to her over the last 24 hours.

The Town Hall Theatre said it was with great sadness that it learned of her untimely passing.

"Claire was always a great supporter of the Theatre and the Arts in Ballinasloe. We were fortunate to have had Claire as our accountant over the last 11 years and her professional advice and assistance has always been invaluable," said the theatre.

"To her husband Jimmy, her children Jake, Ciaran and Aiveen, her mother Kathleen, sister Hilda, and all her extended family and friends, we extend our deepest condolences."

Ms Curley was also a long-time member of Ballinasloe Musical Society, which said it was greatly saddened by the news this week.

"A member of the society for approximately 30 years, Claire was involved in every aspect of the Society, on stage, back stage, and front of house.

"She also served on the committee where she held the post of treasurer," said the musical society as it extended deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Ballinasloe Town AFC said she had been an active and valued contributor to the football club over the years.

"It is with great sadness that the club has learned of the sad and untimely passing of Claire Curley, mother of former players Jake, Ciaran and Aiveen.

"Claire was a joy to be around and a very active member of our club through the years," it said, adding that she was "always there to help out in any way she could, especially with club trips to Halewood."

"Claire will be missed by us all," added the club, which shared a photo of her visiting Manchester United's home ground, Old Trafford.

Ms Curley is currently reposing in The Serenity Funeral Home, Main Street, Ballinasloe, until 8pm this evening (Wednesday).

After tomorrow's funeral Mass, burial will take place in Kilbegley Cemetery. The funeral Mass will be streamed live on: https://m.facebook.com/stmarysmoore
