One person injured in Athlone town crash

A female has been injured following a two-car crash close to Athlone GAA Club, along the Ballymahon Road in the town, Gardaí have confirmed.

She sustained leg and arm injuries in the accident which is believed to have happened around lunchtime.

The injured female was taken from the scene by ambulance to hospital for medical treatment.

Gardaí said the road was closed for a time but has since reopened. There may be a traffic backlog in the area as a result.
