Local AgTech firm Farmeye set to double staff numbers

Local software company Farmeye is expected to double its staff in the next year.

An AgTech company providing soil management software to pasture based agriculture, Farmeye is currently based in Taughmaconnell and looking forward to moving into offices in Athlone this month.

Currently employing eight people and others indirectly, Farmeye expects this to double in the next year, with a range of positions from software development, business development and project management. An exciting new opportunity at present is Head of Software Engineering.

Farmeye CEO Eoghan Finneran says: “We are delighted to be creating senior positions in the Midlands, with excellent opportunities for progression, and without commuting to Dublin. We also offer a hybrid working model for all our team.”

Along with expanding the team, and new for 2022, Farmeye is offering Soil Carbon Analysis and Mapping for co-operatives and large farms. There is a growing interest in climate change and carbon, and how we can reduce our carbon footprint by our actions. Farmers, on the other hand, can increase the level of carbon in their soil through positive farming practices, pulling carbon out of the atmosphere while improving their soil. It’s not always a situation is a win-win, but this definitely is, and it may be even more so in the future. Currently carbon is bought and sold in voluntary markets but post 2030 it is expected that the carbon market will be incorporated into the Common Agriculture Policy.

Key to being able to sell carbon is being able to verify it. How Farmeye helps is by using technology such as Satellite and GIS mapping and GPS to measure and record samples. Samples are geotagged and barcoded, and when taken over time, the amount of carbon in a field can be calculated and potentially monetised.
