Tommy Hewitt's Athlone Town women's team kept alive their hopes of a league and cup double with a memorable come-from-behind victory against league leaders Wexford Youths on Saturday.

The TG4 cameras were in Lissywollen for a live broadcast of the game, as goals from Kellie Brennan and Gillian Keenan helped Athlone to a crucial 2-1 victory.

The win moves Athlone to within three points of the league leaders, with three league games remaining.

The Athlone Town men's team were also in action at home on Friday night as they welcomed Longford Town for the 'Midlands El Clasico' derby.

The home side led twice, through goals from Adam Lennon and Thomas Oluwa, but Longford responded on each occasion and the game finished 2-2.
