Tributes to Creeslough at Westmeath JPC meeting

A minute’s silence was observed at the Westmeath Joint Policing Committee this morning in tribute to the 10 people who tragically lost their lives in Creeslough, County Donegal on Friday.

On Monday morning, the cathaoirleach of Westmeath JPC, Cllr Paddy Hill, began the meeting by addressing the tremendous loss that was suffered by the community of Creeslough

“It’s a very sad day for all of us here in Ireland and, indeed, most particularly in Donegal and in Creeslough, after the terrible event that happened over last weekend,” he said.

“On behalf of the JPC, I want to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences for those who lost their lives in that tragic event and to their families and to the wider community of Creeslough and Donegal.

“Many of us have friends and relations and know many people from Donegal. And there are many Donegal people who live in Westmeath and vice versa.

"It has been a terrible, terrible time for them and will be for the next number of weeks and months.

“All we can really do is to ask the good Lord to give them the strength to carry on and I propose that we observe a minute’s silence and say a silent prayer in the memory of those that have passed away and those that are left to mourn them.”
