Award-winning nature photographer Tina Claffey to visit Mullingar Library

Offaly's Tina Claffey celebrates the minutiae of our Midland habitats through her macro lens.

Her photographs capture what the naked eye cannot see and give a unique perspective of the flora and fauna of raised bogs and wet woodlands.

“Bogs are magical places that defy any distinction between land and water. They are the last true wildernesses in Western Europe and are home to extraordinary plant and animal species that have adapted in this unique environment to survive,” says Tina.

Tina Claffey has exhibited her work in the US, Africa and throughout Ireland and her photographs are included in the permanent collection at Áras an Uachtaráin.

She presented her work at the UN Climate Conference COP 26 and her images are currently part of an Exhibition at Pearse Museum in Dublin, which explores our relationship with the natural world.

In 2017 Tina Claffey published ‘Tapestry of Light – Ireland’s bogs and wetlands as never seen before’ and now she has a new book titled: Portal – Otherworldly Wonders of Ireland’s Bogs, Wetlands and Eskers.

Westmeath Libraries are hosting Tina Claffey, who will give illustrated talks about her work and sign copies of her book ‘Portal’.

Come and meet Tina at Moate Library pm Thursday October 20 at 6:30pm; the Aidan Heavy Library Athlone on Tuesday October 25 at 6:30pm; or at Mullingar Library on Tuesday November 1 at 6:30pm.

There will be a raffle for a signed copy of Tina’s Book at each of these events. Copies of ‘Portal’ will also be available for purchase. Tina’s visits to Westmeath Libraries are supported by Creative Ireland.
