Mix of showers and sunny spells but mercury to hit 18 degrees!

Low pressure dominating bringing rain or showers over the coming days with unseasonably high temperatures of up to 18 degrees. That's the latest weather outlook from the national weather forecaster.

A few showers about today, but there will be plenty of dry weather overall. Some bright or sunny spells will develop and it will be mild for October with highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees. Mist will affect some southern and eastern coasts and hills in moderate southeast breezes, strengthening in the southwest later in the day. Persistent rain will develop in the southwest later this evening.

Rain will spread across Munster early tonight, extending to most of the country later in the night. However, some northwestern areas will hold dry. A few thundery downpours are possible in southern coastal counties. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees with fresh and gusty east or southeast winds. There will be areas of mist and drizzle on some hills and coasts.

Breezy on Friday with showers or longer spells of rain. There will be dry spells and occasional bright spells also. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees with fresh and gusty southeast or cyclonic variable winds.

Friday night: Rain and showers look set to become largely confined to Connacht and Ulster overnight with good dry periods developing elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh south or southwest winds.

Saturday: There will be showers about on Saturday, especially across Connacht and Ulster where some will be heavy and prolonged. Across Leinster and Munster there will be long dry spells along with some sunshine. Fairly mild with highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in a moderate southwest breeze. On Saturday night, a spell of rain will spread from the south. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees in a moderate southerly breeze.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy and damp on Sunday with showery outbreaks of rain, some heavy downpours are possible, especially in the east of the country. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in a moderate southeast wind. Further outbreaks of rain on Sunday night. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in fresh and gusty cyclonic variable winds.

Monday: Breezy and showery on Monday with some heavy falls of rain possible. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds. Clear spells and isolated showers overnight. Colder than preceding nights with lows of 3 to 7 degrees.

Tuesday: Early indications suggest it will be a largely dry day on Tuesday with sunny spells and isolated showers. Highs of 11 to 15 degrees.
