Revamp of greenway cafe in bid to attract operator

Anybody want to take over Streamstown Station cafe, complete with a €33,000 make-over? Westmeath County Council is looking for an operator to run the cafe and is spending €33,000 on equipment and seating by the end of the year.

Cllr John Shaw, who proposed the allocation from the Economic Development and Business Promotion Fund, said this investment would improve the chances of attracting an operator.

Seconding the proposal, Cllr Tom Farrell thanked the local community for their input. He said that once the cafe opens “the whole thing will expand”.

Barry Kehoe, senior executive, said the council continues to engage with anyone who has expressed an interest. He agreed that this investment will bring it closer to being opened without any significant capital investment by the operator. He said the work would be completed this year and hopefully, the cafe would open early in the new year.
