Local couple build own home on new RTÉ series

A Westmeath couple feature on the new series of Build Your Own Home on Wednesday of this week, November 9, at 9.35pm on RTÉ One (and RTÉ Player).

Aoife Raleigh and Tony Mahon from Dysart work with the show host, Australian eco-builder and sustainability designer, Harrison Gardner, as they learn about DIY and building on a budget.

Aoife and Tony saved up and bought a roadside cottage for €95,000 in rural Westmeath. With a remaining budget of €50,000, the circus performers plan to renovate the 19th century building, hoping to include some unusual features, such as a training studio for practising their circus craft.

The show follows them through the ups and downs of the process while they live on-site in a mobile home as the build takes place.

Over the process of four episodes, Harrison Gardner shares his expertise and challenges traditional construction practices and methods, hoping to teach the homeowners and the people home that anyone can learn how to build and renovate their dream home on a budget.
