Athlone CC girls set for Leinster final

The Athlone Community College U-17 soccer team is preparing for the FAI Schools Junior Girls Leinster Cup final against Presentation Secondary School, Wexford.

The Leinster decider will take place tomorrow (Friday), January 27 in Naas AFC (kick-off 12.00). And with the option of playing the match on the astro turf pitch in Naas if required, it should go ahead irrespective of the weather.

The Athlone girls defeated Holy Family SS, Newbridge in their semi-final (played at the Athlone Town Stadium), with the winning goal coming from a superbly struck Ciara Walsh free kick.

The Athlone CC team is coached by Edel Menton, a teacher who has guided school teams to notable success in the past.

There is plenty of sporting talent in the Athlone CC squad, with many of the players already demonstrating their prowess for various teams.
