Portiuncula Hospital to mark 80 years of service

Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe is to mark 80 years of service with a special event later this week.

The Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Divine Motherhood began building and establishing Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe back in 1943, and to celebrate, the sisters and retired staff are invited to a celebratory event in Gullane's Hotel, Main Street, Ballinasloe H53 DC99 on Thursday, April 20th at 3pm.

"We are delighted to be celebrating this momentous milestone," said James Keane, Hospital Manager.

”Portiuncula University Hospital has been an integral part of the local community and has served multiple generations of families right across the county and surrounding areas," added Mr Keane of the hospital which serves a wide catchment area of East Galway, South Offaly, South Westmeath and Roscommon.

“Our mass is to commemorate the founding of Portiuncula University Hospital and to acknowledge the contributions of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) and all of our staff, past and present, who have served this community so effectively.

"We would like to extend a special invitation to all of our staff, past and present, and anyone who has been a part of this journey, to come and celebrate with us, 80 years of Portiuncula University Hospital," he ended.
