Castletown Geoghegan Comhaltas host County Fleadh next weekend

The Comhaltas Branch in Castletown Geoghegan organised a youth seissiún on Sunday afternoon last as a lead-in to the coming weekend’s Westmeath County Fleadh in the village.

The seissiún attracted young traditional musicians from most of the Comhaltas branches around the county and was a great presentation of traditional music playing.

Enda Seery was the director for the event.

The County Fleadh session trail continues in The Bodhrán, Ballinagore today, Thursday, Ned Claffey’s on Friday, Brennan’s Bar on Saturday and The Drake Inn on Sunday.

The ceilí and set dancing competitions begin on Friday, May 12, at the GAA pitch. The Fleadh Mass is on Saturday at 7.30pm and the remaining competitions begin on Sunday at 10am in the national school and the parochial house (further details below).

Details for the Westmeath County Fleadh

Friday May 12

Dancing competitions at the GAA Complex at Páirc Mhic Eochagáin (N91 ARN8) starting at 4.30pm.

Parking available. Please arrive in good time for competitions.

Refreshments available outside the GAA complex for anyone attending the dancing competitions.

There are no practice rooms for dancing groups.

U10 fiddle and whistle competitions are at St Michael’s National School (N91 X659).

Fiddle competition starts at 5pm and whistle competitions at 5.30pm.

Parking available at the church grounds nearby. No parking at the school please.

Sunday May 14

Music, singing, comhrá gaeilge, storytelling competitions start at 10am in St Michael’s NS and the parochial house (behind the church).

All competitors have to sign in and register at the school, including those who are competing at the parochial house.

Parking at the church grounds. No parking at the school.

Refreshments will be available for those attending competitions outside the school.

Grúpa Cheoil and Céili Band competitions are in St Michael’s Church on Sunday evening, to bring the competitions to a close.

Admission for patrons is cash only at all competition venues on Friday and Sunday.
