New student housing scheme signalled for Athlone
A nightclub on the Dublin Road could be demolished to make way for a major student housing scheme, according to a newly published planning notice.
PF&4Ds Ltd has signalled its intention to lodge a new application to Westmeath County Council seeking approval to knock an existing nightclub and external shed, and to partially demolish an existing public house on ground level and residential accommodation on the first floor to make way for new apartments in several blocks.
Should it progress, the student housing scheme would comprise of 26 apartments providing a total of 91 student units in five separate apartment blocks, ranging in size from two to three storeys high on the site at Dublin Road, Bonavalley.
The construction of internal and external alterations to an existing public house on-site also forms part of the development, along with parking, landscaping, a new boundary treatment and the provision of bin and bicycle stores.
The applicant has a fortnight to formally submit formal plans to Westmeath County Council following the publication of the planning notice on Thursday last.
